FAQs

1. Which CD do I have? A MAC or PC version?

All of the CD’s listed above are hybrid CD’s, meaning that they will work on both Mac’s & Windows PC’s. The Active Assessment CD’s are designed to run directly from the CD, whereas all of our other CD’s are designed to be installed on a computer or server so the CD is only required for initial installation.

2. What license do I have?

Some older CD’s may have information on the packaging that refers to which license you have. If you’re unsure the records at Millgate House may be able to show which license you purchased but if it was some time ago those records may not be available. 3. Can I have a demo CD?

We no longer provide demo CD’s but lots of information & examples from the CD’s can be seen on our resources pages.

4. Can you provide us with an MSI?

Our software does use an installer package that incorporates a windows installer; they aren’t specifically MSI’s but should still work ok on all networks.

5. Will it run on an RM network?

Our install from CS software has been successfully installed on RM networks. If you would like to install a product on an RM network please see the instructions below (specifically relating to an RMCC3 network).

1. To install on an RMCC3 network use the standard RM CC3 (Community Connect Version 3) tools to make a Windows Installer Package using a clean RM Build PC.
2. There isn’t much more to it than that as it’s a wizard driven system. You simply tell it that you want to build a new Windows Installer Package and the system takes a snapshot of the existing system. You are then asked to install the package. Once installed, you configure it (for things like options or network paths if they are used). Our software shouldn’t need any configuring.
3. You then run the second scan which takes a second snapshot of the system. The differences between the 2 snapshots are used to make the RM MSI installer package and include things like files and registry settings.
4. The finished package is then allocated to your workstations.

6. How do I unlock Concept Cartoons in Science Education?

Some of the older CD versions of Concept Cartoons in Science Education are locked and require an unlock (init) code to initialise the software. If you have a site license please skip to question 7. To obtain your init code you will need to purchase a license by contacting Millgate House. If you have a single user license already then please follow the instructions below:

• Copy & paste both the MID & the Site code into a new email with CCS Init code as the subject.
• Send the email to millgatesupport@angelsolutions.co.uk
• We will then respond as soon as possible with your init code. You can the open Concept Cartoons in Science Education on the same PC you got the original codes from & type it in the init code box & that will unlock the installation for use on that computer only.
• If you have a single user license you are able to install on a 2nd PC. To do this simply follow the same steps again.

7. I have a site license, how do I unlock Concept Cartoons in Science Education?

The simple advice here is don’t. Please get in touch with Millgate House to either obtain an unlocked version of the CD or to download an unlocked installer. This will save you giving us an infinite number of MID & site codes and therefore save you lots of time.

8. I have a site license, how can I install the application so all users are able to access the application?

There isn’t anything complicated about each application and the network administrator should be able to install directly to the server and share the application over their network, link from workstations. If you are running on an RM network then please see question 5.

9. Spellbound Science Book 2 won’t work on Vista, what can be done?

Unfortunately when Spellbound Science Book 2 was originally printed Vista wasn’t available for testing and there are some problems on the CD which means it’s not vista compatible. Since then we have created a version which is compatible which can be made available to any license holders. Simply contact us using the details at the top of the page.

10. In Concept Cartoons why do I only have text in one speech bubble?

This is the way all Concept Cartoons start; to view the opinions of the other characters simply click on them.

11. Is there any sound in Concept Cartoons?

There is no sound present on any editions of the Concept Cartoons CD’s.

12. In Spellbound Science why can I move through the story manually?

To do this you will need to ensure the story is muted at the beginning and you will be able to move through at your own pace. If the sound is left on you will only be able to move on once the narrator has read the text on screen.
