Professional development

Thank you another thought provoking session today. I really enjoy the opportunity to talk to colleagues about learning. Your sessions have made such an impact in my classroom. The children talk enthusiastically about maths and clearly enjoy using the environment to promote mathematical thinking . . . . (Primary teacher, Suffolk primary and middle school partnership)

We have an outstanding reputation for high quality courses, engaging keynotes, inspirational professional development, consultancy, research and evaluation. We work with primary and secondary schools, clusters of schools, local authorities, SCITTs, universities and education ministries. Our professional development has had a significant impact on teaching, learning and assessment in schools in the UK and overseas, including several European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Egypt and the USA.

The influence of our work in science and mathematics is widely recognised. We also have considerable expertise in English, informal learning, whole school development and cross-curricular issues. We are best known for innovative and engaging approaches to teaching, learning and assessment. Our work gives direct support for putting into practice Assessment for Learning and APP.

Unless indicated, the course or consultancy will be led by Stuart Naylor, Brenda Keogh, Jane Turner, Jo Horlock or Jo Moules. They have worked in and with schools for many years, and are actively involved in current initiatives and curriculum innovation, meaning that our work with you will always be professionally relevant, engaging and inspirational.

Details of professional development courses
The list below provides an overview of the main courses that we provide. These are mainly in the areas of mathematics and science, but they can also cover the whole curriculum. Our courses are not tips for teachers, but experiences that have been carefully designed and shown to have a direct impact on teaching, assessment and learning. We frequently negotiate bespoke courses to address specific issues in individual settings, cluster of schools or training organisations. We also provide support for trainers who have responsibility for the development needs of other staff – see Supporting teacher, supporting learners below.

Charges are calculated on a course by course basis, but are typically between £450 and £950 per day, plus expenses, depending on the size of the organisation and number of people attending. Special subsidised rates apply to some of our courses and for trainee teachers. Please contact Jo Williams on 01270 764314 for more information.
