‘These puzzles really makes learners think, and what a challenge for them to try to create their own.’
Maths on Fire is based on the ever popular matchstick puzzles. But there is far more to the puzzles than making shapes. These tricky little puzzles require lateral and creative thinking to find solutions. This makes them ideal for challenging learners in lots of contexts when teaching mathematics, and particularly useful for pupils who like to think creatively.
The book and CD is more than just a collection of 66 engaging matchstick puzzles. As well as the puzzles, there are generic questions to use with the puzzles, an A-Z of mathematical concepts, a guide to naming polygons and guidance on planning. Answers are also provided in the book and on screen.
The book is printed in black, white and red and is photocopiable without giving away the answers. The CD is fully interactive. The matchsticks are moveable and new matchsticks can be added or removed using the on-screen matchbox. There is also the facility to create puzzles and a lead in to simple algebra. Each book comes with a free set of brightly coloured ‘matchsticks’ for tabletop puzzling.
