Do you want to find strategies to get pupils talking in mathematics lessons that make your life easier, lessons more enjoyable, and learning more engaging and secure? This interactive and engaging course provides essential guidance for making talk happen in the classroom. It explores the value of pupils’ talk and makes connections between talking, thinking and learning. It builds on recent research into dialogic teaching and argument, and links with current national initiatives. It offers a range of creative ways to get pupils actively engaged in lessons, promote their thinking and enhance their learning. Teachers and pupils will be inspired!
On this course you will:
- Gain access to a wide range of strategies for promoting talk in classrooms
- Develop confidence in promoting and using pupils’ talk in mathematics lessons
- Learn about the links between effective talk and developing mathematical understanding
- Learn how to use talk to support assessment for learning
- Learn how to use talk to create a sense of purpose for learners and a clear direction for learning
- Discover small changes that can make a big difference to classroom practice.

This course can be for a minimum of a half a day, but is better run over a full day or longer. It will be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation rather than ‘off the shelf’.

Charges are calculated on a course by course basis, but are typically between £450 and £950 per day, plus expenses, depending on the size of the organisation and number of people attending. Special subsidised rates apply to some of our courses and for trainee teachers.
