PUPPETS: talking science, engaging science, transforming science in secondary schools

Puppets can transform learning in secondary classrooms. This engaging hands-on course, which is part of the highly successful PUPPETS Project, shows you how puppets can be used in a range of ways to provide a superb stimulus for talk and learning. It draws on extensive research that identified the value of using puppets in science classrooms, and enables you to become confident in using puppets with your pupils. It is suitable for pupils from 11 to 18 and teachers working with pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Puppets are available at a highly subsidised price to support this course. You may be able to take advantage of the special funding arrangements that are available for this course.

On this course you will:

  • Learn about the impact of puppets on pupils’ engagement and learning in science
  • Develop your skills and confidence in using puppets
  • Explore a range of ways of using puppets to teach science
  • Learn strategies for maximising the impact of puppets in the classroom
  • Explore resources that support the use of puppets.

Target audience:

Teachers, headteachers, trainee teachers, teaching assistants, teacher educators and consultants/advisers.

This course normally lasts about 2 – 3 hours. It will be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation rather than ‘off the shelf’.
