Modelling in science: supporting thinking and developing understanding
A very useful day. Lots of practical, hands on ideas to promote learning. Now I can see how role play can be really useful.
Are you looking for ideas to help pupils understand some of the most difficult and abstract scientific ideas? This course will provide opportunities to explore different types of models and their potential to support, develop and extend pupils’ scientific thinking and understanding. You will use a variety of increasingly sophisticated models and analogies to consider how the process of describing, testing and evaluating can extend pupils’ understanding of scientific ideas and phenomena.
On this course you will:
- Enhance your knowledge of how models can promote learning
- Explore different types of modelling in science
- Consider how models evolve throughout the learning process
- Use kinaesthetic models and role play in a range of scientific contexts.
Target audience:
Subject leaders, teachers, teaching assistants and trainee teachers working with pupils age 11–16
The course lasts for a full day. However, it can be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation and delivered as a series of shorter training opportunities.
