Engaging teachers, engaging learners in science

I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me. (Primary school teacher, Derbyshire)

Does science have to be entertaining for pupils to be engaged? It’s an interesting question. This highly interactive course will get you thinking about how primary science can be stimulating, and how it can be organised to engage pupils and ensure that they are thinking and learning. It will help you to understand the factors that influence effective science learning. You will experience a range of ideas to get pupils engaged and enhance their learning in ways that fit into everyday science lessons. You will be inspired, and so will pupils in your organisation.

On this course you will:

  • Explore a range of starting points for science with pupils
  • Learn how to engage learners and develop their science skills and ideas in ways that are easily manageable
  • Consider how to ensure that pupils are not only engaged but also learning science
  • Learn how to recognise when pupils are thinking and learning
  • Develop your confidence in doing science with pupils in your organisation
  • Learn how to recognise when science is working well in the classroom.

Target audience:

Primary teachers, headteachers, teaching assistants, teacher educators and trainee teachers

This course lasts a minimum of half a day, but can be for a full day. It will be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation rather than ‘off the shelf’.
